Happy Easter

Happy Easter!!

At the end of last week, the children celebrated Sports Relief by coming to school in their own sports clothes and participating in a series of sports challenges in the hall. A great time was had by all!

This week, the children have enjoyed learning all about Easter. The children have learned about Easter traditions such as egg decorating and rolling and eating hot cross buns and Easter eggs.

We have been learning that in Spring, there is new life like lambs, bunny rabbits, calves, butterflies and chicks.

Look at us in our Easter bonnets looking fabulous. We wore our hats around the school on an Easter parade to show the other children.

We went on an Easter egg hunt in our outdoor area, hunting for numbered eggs and swapped our filled in egg sheets for a real chocolate egg.

We have made our family an Easter card, making a marbled effect by using our fine motor skills to squeeze pipettes of powder paint onto our paper and blowing the paints with a straw.

After the Easter break, we will be thinking about life cycles including frogs and butterflies. We will be thinking about healthy eating and fresh vegetables, as well as focusing on Jack and the Beanstalk as our text.

Spring is in the air...

This week we have been thinking about the changes we have noticed as the seasons are changing.
Although Jack Frost doesn't want to say goodbye just yet, we are noticing that the birds are singing, there are plenty of daffodils waving in the breeze and the blossom is appearing in the trees.

We went on a Spring treasure hunt, looking for signs of spring and found lots of things to tick off our picture lists. Perhaps you can have a look for signs of spring when you are out and about too.

We have made observational drawings of the daffodils

We have matched baby animals to their  mothers and thinking about the things that grow in Spring time.
We have used the role play farm animals to think about baby and mummy animals
We have been singing Five Little Ducks and counting numbered ducks in the water tray.

We are learning to blend letters s, a, t, p, i, n to make words like pin, pan, pit and sip.

Next week, we will be thinking about Easter traditions and continuing to think about new life.

I'll huff and I''ll puff...

3 Little Pigs

This week we are using the book The Three Little Pigs as our main text and our learning has included thinking about the properties of materials, characters in the text, position and how to build a steady construction.
Using the props to retell the story, recalling repeated refrains and thinking about what each character would say.
Building towers with different kinds of block - how steady can you make it? How many blocks did you use? Can you make it taller than you?

We enjoyed playing a counting and number recognition number game with the blocks. First we rolled a number dice and took the matching number of blocks. Then we built our towers. Once our towers were quite tall, we threw a bean bag at our towers and counted how many bricks we could knock over.

We have been writing and reading about the characters in the story, learning that print goes from left to right and how to point at each word as we read.

In our phonics session, we worked in colour teams to see which team could add the most 'i's' to the large sheet of paper.

We have been looking at different materials and thinking about if they would be good for making a house. What do you think about these materials?

Which one would you choose for your house? Why?

Practising our cutting skills and learning how to hold the scissors.

Over the next two weeks we will be learning about the changes we can see in Spring and also about Easter.
