More Christmas Fun!

This week our theme has been Christmas and we have had lots of fun!

We have made our own Christmas cards and posted them in our post box (just like the one we visited on our trip).

We made Christmas stockings, using our cutting skills to think about what we might like for Christmas. We wrote our ideas on our stockings too.

We thought about what we would like for Christmas dinner and made it using play dough, which strengthens our fingers.

We made our own Christmas baubles to decorate our nursery Christmas branches.

We retold the Nativity story using small world characters.

We performed in our Christmas Nativity singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We were all super stars! Well done Nursery.

And we had a very special visitor who bought us gifts. He whispered to Mrs Page that he had received our letters that we sent him!

Remember we have a short week next week before the Christmas break, finishing on Tuesday. We will be collecting in all the class library books so please bring back any you have at home.

There will be a party next week to celebrate the children's good behaviour and we will send further information about this soon.

What a wonderful first term we have had with your lovely children.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Dear Santa...

Christmas is coming and Nursery have been getting ready!

We have been writing letters to Santa Claus and were very excited about a trip to the post-box to post them!

We read a book called Rosie's Walk and thought about Rosie's journey around the farm yard. We changed the story into Nursery's Walk, thinking about what we would pass on our way to the post box.

We walked the story on our giant story map, using words like under, over, through, round and next to.

We really enjoyed posting our letters and spotting all the things we used in our Nursery Walk story, on the way.

Our role play is now  Santa's workshop and little elves have been busy writing Christmas cards, addressing envelopes and wrapping presents.

We have been thinking about the Nativity story and making nativity books and baubles for our class advent calendar.

We used small world props to retell the Nativity story

In Busy Fingers we have used tiny objects like shells and buttons to make number shapes.

We've enjoyed using the corn flour as a snowy landscape for penguins and polar bears.

We've had fun developing our fine motor skills by making Christmas stars.

We decorated the trees outside with Christmas decorations.

Phew! What a busy week. We've still got a child's entertainer coming to visit us.
We will be continuing our Christmas theme next week and our Nativity is on Tuesday. Please could you bring in white or yellow clothes in a named plastic bag by Monday at the latest but please don't buy anything especially.

You could help your child at home by using positional language such as in, under, through, beside etc. and by playing games with your child where they place toys in different positions and tell you where they've placed them.

Dear Zoo

This week we have been reading Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell.

We have made our own lift the flap surprises and working hard on our own writing.
We thought about different animals and whether they would make a good pet or not and why.

We have had fun making our own animals like hedgehogs and rabbits.

We sorted animals using different reasons like 'scary' and 'not scary', '4 legs and not 4 legs' and 'lives in the water and lives on the land." We talked about the reasons for our choices.

In busy fingers we are concentrating on making our fingers strong. We made a cheerio bird feeder and put threaded pasta pieces onto our straws to match our number cards.

Next week we will be thinking about the Nativity story as we think about festivals celebrated by people around the world.

Owl Babies

This week we have been reading Owl Babies. We have used small world props to think about who was in the story, how they felt and what they said.

We made Owl masks to retell the story.

Some of us chose to make Owl Babies books.

Our role play is a vet's surgery. We have been enjoying taking phone calls, writing prescriptions and nursing sick pets.

We have been working on our fine motor skills - using tweezers to pick up pom poms and writing our names in tea leaves.

We have been having fun making play dough numbers.

Thank you for your Wow! moments. The children always love sharing them with their friends.

Next week we will be reading Dear Zoo and we will be focusing on sorting animals according to different criteria, for instance how many legs, their colour or size. You could talk to your children at home while they are playing about how and why they would sort their toy cars, dolls, teddies etc.

Thank you also to all those of you who have filled a cup with sweets for the school fair this Saturday.
We would love to see you there!

We have been singing Aliens songs

We're going to the moon
We made models of rockets to take us to the  moon, learning how to attach tape so our boxes stick.

We have been using all kinds of marks like zigzags, stripes, circles and dots to decorate the alien's underpants, thinking about how to hold our pens comfortably.

We have been working on numbers and having lots of fun matching pegs to number cards, matching stickers to numbers and ordering numbers.

For Anti-bullying week we have read The Rainbow Fish. We have been thinking of kind things we can do for our friends.

We went on a shape treasure hunt looking for shapes all around us. Can your children tell you what shapes they can see here?

Thank you for coming into Nursery to read with your children. We hope you like the Book Trust gift book -  Kitchen Disco.

Next week we will be reading Owl Babies and thinking about daytime and night time and what happens when it is dark and when it is light.

Thank you once again for all the Alphabet Treasure Hunts we are having back - Well done!
