Jack and the Beanstalk Part 2

Growing Beans

This week we have been very excited to see the beans that we planted last week grow. We looked at their roots, shoots and leaves. Later on in the week we will make some observational drawings.

Pretending to plant beans and grow flowers in the play dough - what do plants need to grow?
We have been investigating different kinds of beans and what they look like.

We have been continuing to rehearse and recall Jack and the Beanstalk, and compare different versions such as Jim and the Beanstalk, Jaspar's Beanstalk and Shh! Why not try to find some of these at the library to read and talk about at home.

Creating our own beanstalks...

And a giant beanstalk
Later this week we will be thinking about what a magic bean might grow into and making magic bean packets. This will support our speaking and listening skills and our drawing and writing skills.

As we were so interested in the mini beasts in the Nursery garden, Mrs Ivory bought her African land snail in to see us. We had the opportunity to hold him. First we had to wet our hands to make sure that he was comfortable, and then wash our hands carefully afterwards.

Outside we have loved converting the boxes our new furniture arrived in into all sorts large construction for role play. This helped our language skills, drawing and writing and our imaginative play.

We have been rehearsing reading 3 letter words. Why not try sounding out 3 letter sounds and asking your child if they can blend them together.

Next week we will be reading Oliver's Salad and thinking about healthy eating.

Very excitingly, on Wednesday 9th May there will be a visiting theatre company who will be putting on a performance of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. There is a letter coming home shortly with more details.

Fee Fi Fo Fum...

Welcome back!
We have been super excited at the beginning of this term because our Early Years rooms have had a revamp. There has been new flooring and the walls have been repainted. We have resigned the rooms and added some new furniture. The children have been loving the changes. This term our topic is Growth. This week our text is Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been using this book as the focus for our learning.
We have learned what plants need to grow and have planted our own beans. We are looking forward to watching them grow.

On our play dough table and in our messy play tray, we have been sowing seeds and 'planting' flowers.

We have used our maths skills to make beanstalk number lines with missing numbers.

We have been watching tadpoles and frogspawn and will be watching how they change and grow.

We have been lucky to have some beautiful sunshine and the weather is set to get even better. Please make sure your child comes to school in sun cream and with a named sun hat as we play indoors and out and want the children to be safe. Children who don't have a sun hat will be asked to play indoors while it is hot outside to make sure they don't get sun burn. Children can find it upsetting to be unable to play with their friends in the outdoor space so please make sure your child is sun ready.  We also request that the children bring in a named water bottle. Many thanks!

Please also remember that milk should be ordered online.

Next week we continue with our Jack and the Beanstalk theme.
