What's the same? What's different?

This week in the foundation stage we have been thinking about what makes us the same and what makes us different and special.

We have explored photos of ourselves and our friends and compared our eyes, hair colour, hair length and clothes. We have noticed our mouths, noses and teeth.

Caterpillars have been using mirrors to look carefully at their faces and draw self portraits.

We have been reading the story "The Mixed up Chameleon" and talking about what is special about all of the animals. In Caterpillars we practised moving like all the different animals from the story: slithering like a fish, rolling like a seal, crawling like a polar bear, running like a deer.

Next week we will be exploring the sounds that different musical instruments make.

ShipShape in the Early Years!

In Early Years we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes.

We have been busy making models and pictures, going on treasure hunts and playing games with shapes to help us learn their names and how to describe them. We have been using vocabulary such as edges, sides, faces and corners.

Finding shapes in the environment

In Reception we have been reading Brown Bear by Eric Carle. We were thinking of the colours of the different animals and made up our own animals to add to the story. We retold the story using masks and instruments.

We explored mixing paints to make new colours.

Next week we will be looking at how we are the same as our friends and how we are different.
