Wow! What an exciting few days!!

Late entry: We were very excited on Friday 4th March because not only was it World Book Day but also our class assembly. The children loved doing The Three Bears Rap to the whole school and parents while dressed as our favourite book characters. Thank you to all the parents who came and watched us.

Last Friday we had fun learning new sports for Sports Relief. The children in FS2 has a taster session of lacrosse, hockey and dance. The children practised dribbling balls, scooping up balls in the lacrosse net, passing and aiming. We also learned a new dance routine.

In FS2, in music we have been learning about Peter and the Wolf. The children have matched the characters to their tunes, moved like the characters from the story and were very excited when the children from older year groups bought their instruments in to show us.

We were able to listen to the sounds, talk about their pitch and say whether they were brass, string or wind.

In FS1, we are looking at non fiction books and learning that they contain information. We are negotiating space and changing direction when there are obstacles in our way.

For the rest of the week and next week we will be thinking about Easter and Easter traditions, such as egg hunts, Easter foods and making Easter cards.

Science explorers!

We have had a very exciting Science week in EYFS!

On Tuesday, we had a visit from Sandringham School. They demonstrated their remote controlled robot and let some of us have a turn. They showed us their gas powered cars and we had some turns releasing the car and watching it speed down the track, it travelled at 160mph!

On Tuesday and Wednesday we conducted our own minibeast investigation. We talked about the different areas of our garden, the bark area around our climbing equipment, the grassy area beneath the trees and the muddy area by the tyres.

We talked about where we thought there would be more bugs.

Noah: Under the tyres because it's muddy.
Jennie: In the tyres is very dark so they might like it there.
Adam: Behind the tree 'cause it's wet
Isaac: I think that they like it in the woods where it has lots of food in it.

We went outside and dug in different areas, we made tally charts to show how many bugs we found in each area. We found that there were the most bugs in the wet mud by the tyres.  We used tough-cams to take photographs.

We studied the creatures using tough-cams, magnifying glasses and magnifying pots.

In the afternoon the Butterflies went into the hall to present their findings to the rest of the school. We had our own table where we displayed drawings, tally charts and information about the worms and other minibeasts.  The children did a great job of talking about what they had done and seen.

We have had a very exciting arrival: we now have our own caterpillars!

Where do caterpillars come from?
How do they grow?
Will they stay caterpillars forever?

This video might help to answer some of these questions!

We love the Queen of Hearts!

This week we have been very busy preparing for our sharing assembly this Friday.

We have been practising reciting The Queen of Hearts, and we talked about what happened first in the story and what happened next.

We have been exploring lots of activities based around Humpty Dumpty: we have tried to build walls for Humpty Dumpty, and some of us talked about how we could make the wall more secure.

We have drawn and painted pictures of characters sitting on the wall, this has developed our skill of drawing shapes to represent objects. We have also used the technique of sponge printing to create our own walls.

In Maths we have been looking at the total number of objects, and how the total remains the same when we separate the group of objects in different ways.

We have been preparing for World Book Day by reading a range of traditional tales. We have retold the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears using puppets and we have been learning The Three Bears Rap.

In Butterflies we talked about our favourite characters in books:

Ethan: "My favourite is Peter Pan."
Lacey: "I like the Big Bad Wolf from 3 Little Pigs".
James: "The Tiger, from the Tiger Who Came To Tea. I'm dressing up as him."

In groups, we chose a character and gave clues to the rest of the class to guess who we were thinking of.

We are really excited about dressing up as our favourite characters on Friday, and we are looking forward to seeing you at our sharing assembly.
