A busy half term

Well done to all the children who completed some home learning by writing, drawing or sticking pictures into your diaries about all the exciting things you got up to during half term...you've been so busy!

Mrs Ledger has enjoyed reading the diaries today, do continue to send them in during this week if children have done some work at home.  Here is just a small selection of the super work that was produced.

The great blog challenge

Today, Mrs Ledger challenged us to write a blog about our animal visitors, by coming up with a sentence to explain which animal was our favourite.

After having a think, we tried to make our sentences longer by using 'because' and 'and'.  Next, we practised our words in a sentence with a talk partner.  Then, we continued our Computing work by recording our sentences using an app called Dragon Dictation.  We spoke into the iPad, and it recorded our sentences by turning them into writing.  Mrs Ledger then added the text to the blog.  Here's what we had to say...

Computing Caterpillars

Caterpillars have been very busy exploring lots of different technology in the last couple of weeks. They have been using the interactive whiteboard for writing, reading and retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We have been exploring a range of technological toys:

As promised, the Butterflies showed us how the Beebots work and we have had lots of fun having races and challenging ourselves to program the Beebot to reach certain shapes.

How can we make the Beebot reach the red circle?

Clever Comptuing

We have really enjoyed getting to grips with some interesting computing activities in the last couple of weeks.  In ChIL the children have been using the computers and iPads to complete a range of interesting games including mazes, dressing activities, puzzles and phonics games.  Some of the children have been doing writing and typing on the interactive whiteboard, and some children have even used the photocopier to copy their own work for learning journals.

Today, Butterflies had a visit from our IT Technician Mr Sherwood, who helped us learn about how to use the beebots.  We all had a turn at programming the robots - perhaps you could ask your child to explain how they work.

Next week, butterflies will be tasked with becoming the teachers and showing the younger children in Caterpillars how the beebots work.  Watch this space for more photos and updates about our computing work.
