Autumn in Nursery

This week the children are learning about Autumn and our book has been We're going on a Bear Hunt.

We have had lots of fun learning about the changes that happen in autumn.
We have used natural autumnal objects like different coloured leaves, acorns and conkers in our Learning Through Play activities.

Counting with conkers

Retelling the story of We're going on a Bear Hunt with story props.

Making new sounds to add to our story like "crunchy leaves", "rolling conkers" and "snapping twigs".

We have dipped conkers in paint and rolled them over the paper to make conker rolling pictures.

We went on an Autumn Walk, searching for different coloured leaves and acorns.
Then we used our finds to make wonderful collages.

We made an autumn storm in our class room when we used the parachute to toss the leaves in the air, singing our Autumn songs.

Don't forget that we change class library books every Thursday so don't forget to return them so your child can take home a new one.

Next term we will be thinking about celebrations including Diwali and Christmas.

Have a wonderful half term next week and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday 31st.

Fruit salad ...yummy yummy!

This week we have been thinking about healthy foods. We read the book Oliver's Fruit Salad and made our own fruit salads.

First we washed out hands. Then we choose 3 of our favourite fruits.
After that we peeled the tangerines and bananas.

Next we chopped our fruit remembering to keep our fingers well out of the way.

Now for the best bit... Finally we ate out fruit salads. They were so yummy!

We have also been sorting foods we can eat everyday and those we can eat sometimes as a treat, making a healthy packed lunch.

We have made our own paper plate healthy meals

We used play dough to make our healthy meals and talk about what is healthy and what we can eat sometimes as a special treat.

Next week we will be exploring the topic of Autumn. You can help your child develop their learning through talking to them about the changes they can see in the trees now that it is Autumn and looking for conkers, acorns and different coloured leaves. Our book will be We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week in Nursery we have been exploring the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

We have been learning to retell the story to Ms Roberts when she visits us on Friday.

We tasted the fruit from the story and described how it tasted

"juicy"

"sweet"

We have been making books and talking about what  happened in the story.

We have been retelling the story of The Hungry Caterpillar using props and remembering the repeated refrains.

We have turned our role play into a supermarket selling fresh potatoes, carrots, onions and beans. We used the scales to weigh them and wrote how many were in the pack and how much they cost. To consolidate your child's learning, perhaps next time you are at the supermarket you could chat to your child about the different vegetables and fruits there are and look for price labels.

Next week we will be thinking about healthy eating. We will be reading a book called Oliver's Fruit Salad and making fruit salads of our own - yummy!

This week in Nursery...

This week we have been thinking about celebrations and special times for our family.

We have been celebrating the birthday of our class toy, Cheeky Monkey.

We have been making birthday cakes with play dough and counting the candles for his special day.
We have been writing birthday cards and making special birthday numbers for him.
We had lots of fun playing Pass the Parcel and finding forfeits in each wrapper asking us to sing nursery rhymes and count.

We have been thinking of  the British Value - Everyone is special. We painted our portraits and thought really hard about how we look, whether our hair is long or short, straight or curly. We used paints and looked in the mirror to see what colours we needed for our eyes and skin. We though about how we are the same and different as our friends. Our portraits are amazing!

Thank you to all parents for bringing in the children's special books. We have been sharing them in class and with our friends. The photos have really opened up discussions about special times in our lives.

Next week we will be thinking about The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We had a fantastic taster of the story when Year 1 came down to perform the story to us.

We will also be thinking about Autumn for the next few weeks. We would really appreciate any conkers, acorns, leaves or pine cones to keep in our small world area if you and your child would like to go on an Autumn treasure hunt.
