What a busy half term we have had! We have continued with our All About Me topic, learning about houses, the rooms we have in our houses and what we do in each room.

Here's what the children have to say:

"We've been learning how to make our house, we used glue to stick them together. We've been learning how to write our names."

"We have been learning about threading. Shapes. Circles, squares, triangles."

"I've made play dough for cupcakes. I squashed it with sprinkles."

"I've been playing at the maths table, playing with the elephants, line them all up in a circle."

How many were there? "21!"

Here is an example of our Maths learning:

In Butterflies:

"We have been weighing shoes. One's lighter and one's heavier"

In Caterpillars:

We count to see how many children are at school today: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. There are 7."

"They're having a go in the sand. They're having a turn making a 5."

Thank you for reading our blog!

Busy Busy Busy and exciting visitors!

A quick extra update from Butterflies..

We have had a busy week, following the 'Ourselves' topic with Caterpillars - making faces from different things and in different ways and talking about what we look like.
We have been exploring senses and how we use them and also this week thinking about how we have changed since we were babies.
We were lucky enough to have a visit from a baby and his mum and we came up with lots of great questions to ask.  The grown ups were very impressed with how calmly and quietly we sat for the baby.

On Tuesday we took part in our sponsored athletic event and got to meet a professional gymnast who wowed us in the hall with his back-flips and somersaults!!  Well done to all the Butterflies who were so enthusiastic!

We have been busily getting on with our maths too - learning how we compare things of different height and weight - including ourselves! In Busy Fingers we have used shapes to make pictures and been impressing the grown ups with our counting and number recognition.

As for writing we have been doing it everywhere!

All About Me!

We have been so busy in the last few weeks in the foundation stage!

We have been learning all about ourselves. We have a home corner where the children have been exploring what they know about their own homes and families and acting out their own family stories.

We have learnt about our senses by exploring different textured objects and listening to different sounds.

Here are some of the things the children have enjoyed - in their own words:

"Painting!"

"A story. A ballerina story and a bus story."

"Playing in the play dough, making cake."

We talked about when we might have cake.

"A birthday, it's my sister's birthday today."

Have a great weekend,

The EYFS team and children!

Welcome!!!

We have had our first day at school as the complete Butterflies & Caterpillars classes and we had a great day.
Some of us found it a bit daunting at first being away from our loved ones, but we had lots of smiles and fun times and all the children did so well.

Parents and Carers, please do watch this space for updates on what we are learning about and some photos.  It's something you can look at sometimes with your children in order to chat to them about their learning.

We are looking forward to a busy week getting to know everyone!

A big WELL DONE to the children!

Butterfly World Trip

A huge well done to all the children who came on the trip yesterday, and a big thank you to our parents and carers who came to help.

We explored a variety of different gardens and looked at what made them special.

We found a musical instrument garden and made some fast, slow, high and low sounds.

We met some stick insects, snails, ants and of course butterflies! We found out lots of new information, and the staff at Butterfly World were very impressed with what we already knew about caterpillars from our Very Hungry Caterpillar topic.

And of course one of the highlights of the day was having our packed lunches and making good use of the climbing equipment and slide!

There was lots of walking and lots of excitement - we are sure the children all slept soundly when they got home (we did)!
