Zoom Zoom Zoom...We're going to the moon!

This week we have been continuing our space theme and our book has been Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. We have also been thinking about shapes.

We have been on a journey to space and retold the story of Baby Bear who travelled to the moon, using story props to rehearse beginning, middle and end of stories and talk about characters and settings.

We used the small world space moon buggies and aliens to make up our own stories.

We made space bugs and wrote their names
"This is Mr Flappy"

We have been listening to space stories and singing space songs:

Three little men in a flying saucer
Flew round the earth one day
The looked left and right
But they didn't like the sight
So one man flew away!

We have been playing with shapes and making patterns and pictures with them, talking about the shapes we have seen.

Cheeky Monkey had hidden lots of shapes around our classroom and we went on a shape hunt finding as many as we could. We talked about the shapes we had found and sorted them according to whether they were straight or curved.

We dipped the cars into paint and made straight sided shapes and curved sided shapes using the wheel tracks.

At home you could go on a shape hunt around your house and see what shapes you can find, talking about corners, how many sides your shape has and if they are straight or curved. If you wanted to, you could send in photos of the shapes you have found so we can display them.

Thank you to everyone who has already sent in Wow! moments. We are really pleased to see what learning your children have been getting up to at home. We have plenty of blank Wow! moment sheets at school if you need anymore.

Also a big thank you and well done to everyone who has returned the Alphabet Treasure Hunt  incredibly promptly. The official return date is November 30th but of course you can return it before. We really appreciate your involvement and any money raised will be spent on  Early Years provision.

Don't forget that book change day is Thursday and if your child brings their last class library book to school, we will change it for a book of their choice.

Next week our book will be Aliens love Underpants and our we will be focusing on mark making skills and correct pen grip.
