Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

This week we have been reading The Three Little Pigs.

We have been learning about repeated refrains and chants in stories and thinking about how stories begin, what happens in the middle and how they end. To help us with this we have learned the chorus of The Three Pigs Rap which the children have really enjoyed singing.

We used props to help us retell the story and help us remember what happened at the beginning, middle and end,  and the words the pigs and the wolf said.

We also built houses for the characters and investigated using Mrs Page's hair drier which houses were strong and which were most likely to fall down.

We practised our counting skills by building a brick wall for the pigs to match the numbers and check to make sure we counted accurately.
We made our own brick houses, gluing bricks to cover the spots, then counting to see how many we had used.

We enjoyed being construction workers in the 3 little pigs' work site.
We used split pins, staples, glue, scissors, sellotape and treasury tags to make our own houses, working out which method of joining worked best.

Thank you for all the books you have bought in for the book swap and hope you have enjoyed the ones who received. Thanks also for visiting our book sale. We hope you found some new books your children will enjoy at home. Don't forget that parents are invited in tomorrow (Thursday 2nd March) to read with your child and to receive a Book Start book to take home.

Next week we will be reading Three Billy Goats Gruff.

A reminder that on Thursday 9th March, it is International Food Day and we invite parents to
to share meals or snacks from different countries.

Family Reading

Family reading for Book Week was really good fun and all the children enjoyed sharing books with an adult. Don't forget it's dressing up day (as a book character) tomorrow (Friday)
